OPAL Play
At Hathern Primary School, we are proud to enrich children’s play experiences through the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme. OPAL is a nationally recognised initiative that transforms playtimes by improving the quality of outdoor play, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be active, creative and deeply engaged during lunchtimes. Through OPAL, children have access to a wide range of open‑ended resources and play opportunities that encourage teamwork, resilience and problem‑solving. From building dens and exploring the natural environment to creating imaginative games, pupils develop essential life skills while having fun. This approach strongly reflects our school CARE Code — Co‑operation, Awareness, Respect and Enjoyment — helping us to nurture a happy, inclusive and positive play environment for all. Our Play Policy

All‑Weather Play
Over the coming term, we will be progressing with the development of our welly and waterproof storage areas. When requested, please ensure your child has suitable waterproof clothing and a pair of wellies that can remain in school. We will also provide spare items for children who may not have their own. We want all pupils to enjoy exploring our school grounds in every season. They are loving the freedom this brings — and getting muddy is all part of the fun!
Donations and Resources
We are extremely grateful for the donations we have already received and would warmly welcome any further contributions to support imaginative play. We particularly value resources that help reduce waste — items that may have been stored away in garages for years or might otherwise be thrown away can become fantastic play materials for our children. Thank you for your continued support in helping us make playtimes exciting, engaging and enriching for everyone.
