-------------------------------Things to remember...------------------------------------
|
------------------------------------Reading books---------------------------------------
We endeavour to hand out new reading books during the first full week of school following phonics assessments and reading checks, this will allow us to ensure your child has the book best matched to their current level.
We will change these books weekly, when we can see that the book has been read a number of times at home. We encourage children to read in school and at home each day - this can be anything (magazines, online texts, books from home, cereal packets!) Regular reading is proven to improve reading confidence, word recognition and fluency. |
----------------------------------------PE kit---------------------------------------------
Our PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons led by Mr Hanford our amazing Sports coach.
Children need to have their PE kits in school on these days to avoid missing out on these sessions. In accordance with current government guidance, Mr Hanford aims to conduct as many PE lessons outside as possible, and therefore appropriate PE kit is required (plain jogging bottoms, a plain sweatshirt/hoody and trainers). Earrings must be removed or covered up for all PE lessons. Children with pierced ears must be able to remove their own earrings before the lesson or cover them up with tape brought from home. Alternatively, earrings could be removed before school on your child's PE days. |
---------------------------------------Phonics-------------------------------------------
Phonics lessons will take place each day to support the teaching of early reading and spelling.
Children have been assessed to determine their current phonic level allowing us to plan for their next steps in learning. Regular practice of the sounds we have been taught will greatly improve your child's recognition of graphemes and confidence with using these sounds to read and spell words. |
--------------------------------Playtimes & Lunchtimes---------------------------------
As classes are remaining separate from each other at the moment, playtimes and lunchtimes have been staggered and areas for the playground and field have been designated to each class.
In year 2 we have the chance to play basketball, ride the bikes and use the skipping ropes throughout the week during our outdoor playtimes. At lunchtime, Mr Hanford is leading sports sessions for a class each, our day is Wednesday. We also have specific tables to sit at in the dinner hall to keep us together in our class group. |
