Egyptian Day
We have had so much fun during our Egyptian Day. We learnt about how to mummify a body, how to design an Egyptian city, how to be a scribe, how to play some games and we looked at some amazing artefacts. We have had the best day!
Egg drop challenge!
We put our teamwork skills to the test by designing and creating our own egg harness. We used a range of materials to create something that would prevent our egg from cracking when dropped from a height. We then put these to the test and saw how effective our harnesses were!
Class Information
Here is a reminder of some of our classroom routines:
1. Our school day starts at 8:45am and ends at 3:15pm.
2. Our PE days are now on a Wednesday and Friday this half term. Please have your kits ready for these days. Our PE uniform consists of a plain white t-shirt, black shorts/jogging bottoms and plimsolls/trainers.
3. Please remember to bring in your reading book and water bottle into school every day. All other stationary and equipment will be provided for you.
Homework
Reading: It is really important that children continue to read aloud to an adult as much as possible. Even just 5 minutes a night can make a HUGE difference to your child's fluency, confidence and enjoyment of reading. We are replacing paper reading journals with an online reading record called Boom Reader. (Details of this to follow shortly) Make sure you bring your reading book with you every day.

Take a look at some of the fun learning we have been doing...
Making Ears
During our new topic about Sound, we had a go at creating our own diagram of an ear using different coloured playdough! The children had a great time labelling the different parts and explaining their functions. They even had a chance to teach Year 3 all about how the ear works! Well done Year 4!
Escape from Pompeii
Before our new English topic, we have been looking and listening to lots of different pieces of evidence to help us to find out what we thought the story would be about. We looked carefully in an evidence box and found:
* A map of Italy
* A burnt letter To Pompeii from Tranio and Livia
* Lava collected at the scene

DT Moving Christmas Cards!
For our DT project this half term, we were learning all about levers and linkages. Year 4 had a great time testing out different levers and used this understanding to create their own moving Christmas card which they sold to their parents at the Christmas fair!
Mummified Tomatoes!
We brought our Ancient Egypt topic to a close by having a go at mummifying tomatoes to help us understand how the mummification process worked. We left our tomatoes for 8 weeks before checking them!
Egyptian Hook Day...
In Year 4 we became Egyptologists for the morning! We found out all about where Egypt is using an atlas and had a go at becoming archaeologists, excavating Egyptian artefacts! We also had a go at dancing like an Egyptian! It was great fun!
Egg Drop...
We put our team work skills to the test, designing and making out own egg carriers. We had to design and build a carrier that would protect our egg when dropped from 2 metres. We did a fantastic job as only one of our eggs cracked!!
