Amazing Class 5
Class 5 is made up of an incredible group of children with inquisitive minds. Miss Smith is our class teacher. We are lucky enough to have Mrs O'Neill teach us every Wednesday morning for French and RE and to have Mr Hanford lead our PE sessions on a Thursday and Friday afternoon. We also receive some support with our learning from Mrs Cripps and Mrs Stenhouse.
This half term Class 5 have thoroughly enjoyed putting on their space helmets and blasting off into outer space! They have begun an exciting journey around the solar system and this week, have been visiting each of the planets to find out what they are made of and if any of them can support life. They have enjoyed writing fact files about each planet and using the apps, Chatterpix and Book Creator on the iPads to make interactive guides to the Solar System. We will be sharing our eBooks with Class 2 on Friday!
Brilliant Class Books:
Wonder

In Class 5 we are bonkers about books and love going into our Hogwarts themed library to read as much as possible. We have whole class reading lessons every day and our first novel this term is, Wonder by R.J Palacio. We are only a few chapters in so far but are thoroughly enjoying it.
Marvellous Maths
In maths, we are focusing on place value. This week we have been learning how to read and write Roman numerals up to 10,000 . We have learned how to write years in Roman numerals too and enjoyed working out how old Miss Smith was from her year of birth.
Next we will be recapping how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Click on the link below to listen to the rounding rap!

Things to remember
Homework- Creative homework is handed out once every half term. The children will have the half term to complete 3 pieces of homework, which they can choose from 9 different options. This will create a '3 in a row' effect on their homework grids. Spellings will go out on a Thursday and need to be returned by the following Thursday. Spellings should be practised at home throughout the week using Spelling Shed.
Timestables - All children are expected to know their timestbales up to 12x12. Learning timestables is therefore a really important part of the children's weekly homework. We will provide lots of opportunities for the children to practise their timestables at school but it is really beneficial for them to also practise them regularly at home. All the children can practise their times tables on Times Table Rockstars.
Here is a great game that the children can play online to help with this:www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Reading books- Children are asked to try and read a short amount every day with somebody at home. If the children read at least three times per week to an adult, they will be entered into the reading raffle for a chance to win some cool reading related prizes! There are opportunities for children to read in school with an adult throughout the week so please can children have their reading records with them at all times.
PE- PE takes place on Thursdays and Fridays so they will need their PE kits in school on these days. The children need to be collected from Pasture Lane on Thursday.
Home time- Children will be collected from Cross Street site every day (unless notified) except Thursday where they will need to be collected from Pasture Lane.
