Our Curriculum Intent Statement
At Hathern CE Primary we believe that every child has the right to a great education that enables them to develop into conscientious citizens of the future.
The ethos of the school, encompassing all that we stand for, is reflected in and expressed throughout; it derives from the Christian tradition and seeks to activate our beliefs and values which are encapsulated in our CARE code. Cooperation, Awareness, Respect and Enjoyment are the four strands that we strive for throughout our curriculum and school as a whole.
Aims:
Our vision is to create a primary school that encourages its children to explore, discover and dream. We want to help each child become a caring, confident and curious young person who has a passion for learning and achieving their best.
We will do this by supporting, guiding and inspiring our children through excellent teaching practices. By working with our families we will create an aspirational school community in which everyone is valued and successes are celebrated.
We believe that every child should be recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. We constantly provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.
The school is an important part of the village; part of a community that is vibrant and active. We recognise the benefits of developing effective relationships within our village community – as the village ‘reaches in’, we reach out, understanding that close liaison promotes cohesion within the community and enrichment to our wider curriculum.
From entry in to the Foundation Stage through to the transition from Year 6 in to Year 7, we are privileged to take the children on a learning journey, providing them with the skills they need to develop academically, socially, personally, morally and spiritually. Our principle aim is to enable our children to succeed in their future lives in an increasingly technological, culturally-diverse and fast-changing world where economic and personal well-being can only be achieved if the education we provide, at this primary level, is appropriate and ‘fit for purpose’. Our provision is based upon sound educational practices and principles where the needs of the child are at the centre of the decision-making process.
Opportunities are provided for children to work independently and collaboratively and great importance is placed on experiential learning; to this end we try to ensure that every opportunity is provided for a child to learn by investigation. The use of ICT is integral to our teaching with iPads, laptops, computers, recording devices and cameras being used to bring learning to life.
All work programmes have built-in progression, and children develop new skills and concepts according to their age, ability and aptitude.
We value each child's contribution and individuality and consider it important to satisfy educational, social and personal needs and to encourage a sense of self-esteem and pride in all our pupils.

Aims:
- Cooperation: Children are encouraged to work with others as part of the school, wider community and eventually, to become global citizens.
- Awareness: Children are aware of the world around them and how they are important within that world.
- Respect: Children respect the views, beliefs, opinions and actions of others.
- Enjoyment: Children enjoy their learning and recognise how they can influence the enjoyment of others.
