Story Retell
Tuesday by David Weiner
We are using the wonderful book Tuesday to write a retell of this marvelous picture book. Click the link below to watch the video of the story. It is a wonderful book in which the frogs go flying! The children are really enjoying it so far and are excited to be able to share this book with you at home. We will be working on making sure the basics of writing are embedded this term. I expect everyone to be using their capital letters, finger spaces and full stops correctly, as well as making sure we are spelling some words correctly and using our sounds for any others.
Ideas for home:
Why not make up your own picture book where something strange happens? You could use time stamps like in the story Tuesday or you could practice those writing skills to make a story board. Maybe think about what happens on a different day of the week? Do you have any other books like this? Picture books are fantastic for supporting children's language development and in particular their inference skills. Choose a page and think about what the characters are thinking and feeling.

Maths-
Place Value
During this half term, we will learn all about Place Value.
The children will be doing lots of practical activities with Base 10 to build and partition numbers up to 100. We will look at a part and whole model to support us in partitioning and we explore how to spell the words. We will be doing lots of problem solving questions requiring us to multiple skills and recall different number facts. Fancy playing some games? Click on the button below! |

-------------------------------Things to remember...------------------------------------
------------------------------------Reading books---------------------------------------
At the beginning of each school year we listen to the children read to ensure they are reading the appropriate phonics phase/ banded book. We will be handing out school books on Monday 12th September, along with guidance on how to access the online reading diary.
As in Year 1, the children will keep the same reading book for the whole week to ensure fluency and confidence is built across their time at home with that book. We encourage reading of any additional books, magazines, newspapers or anything else you have at home! Book change will be every Monday so we will start a each week with a new book. This year we will be using an online reading diary system. Watch this space to find out how to use the online system. |
----------------------------------------PE kit---------------------------------------------
Our PE lessons will take place on Monday and Tuesday afternoon with Mr Edwards and Mr Clifton.
Children need to have their PE kits in school on these days to avoid missing out on these sessions. Mr Hanford may deliver PE lessons outside, and therefore appropriate PE kit is required (plain jogging bottoms, a plain sweatshirt/hoody and trainers). Earrings must be removed or covered up for all PE lessons. Children with pierced ears must be able to remove their own earrings before the lesson or cover them up with tape brought from home. Alternatively, earrings could be removed before school on your child's PE days. |
---------------------------------------Phonics-------------------------------------------
Phonics lessons will take place each day to support the teaching of early reading and spelling.
Children have been assessed to determine their current phonic level allowing us to plan for their next steps in learning. Regular practice of the sounds we have been taught will greatly improve your child's recognition of graphemes and confidence with using these sounds to read and spell words. |
--------------------------------Playtimes & Lunchtimes---------------------------------
We shall now be able to enjoy playtimes and lunchtimes with our friends / siblings from other classes out on the playground and / or field when possible.
Please complete and return your dinner menu to allow children the time to choose their meals with your guidance. We have lots of delicious meal choices now including three hot meals and two picnic bags. |
