A Big Welcome to Year 1 from Mrs Bratton!

I am absolutely delighted to be the year 1 teacher again this year and I am looking forward to the year ahead.
Below you will find some general information; please look out for any updates.
Updated 13.9.2020

....................................................Staffing .................................................
Joining me in the classroom is Miss Hanson who has returned to the school this year on a full-time basis. She is with us most days, and has already proved to be an extremely valuable member of the team.
Mrs O'Neill, Mrs Halford and Mr Hanford will teach the children French, Religious Education and P.E (respectfully) on a Wednesday afternoon; lessons will be delivered on a rota basis. The children are familiar with this routine; it is the same as last year when they were in Foundation. Mr Hanford will also teach the children P.E on a Tuesday afternoon. Ms Kalawsky teaches a group of children during the daily phonic lesson, formally assesses phonics and reading and also teaches phonics on a 1-1 basis.
....................................Clothing and Equipment ...........................................
Thank you so much for naming the children's jumpers and cardigans!
Just a reminder that, as the Autumn is upon us, the children will need a coat in school, as some lessons do take place outside of the classroom.
Although there is no special provision to store wellies in the year 1 cloakroom please feel free to send them to school in a carrier bag that can be hung on their coat peg. As the children may have mentioned to you already, Thursday afternoon will now be designated to outdoor learning therefore if the children can bring wellies for the afternoon's lesson then that will be most appreciated. (However please note this may not be the only time during the week that learning will take place outdoors.)

......................................The Year 1 Learning Environment ..........................
As you will have seen Mr Dunn has erected some fencing over the Summer to enable the children to have an outdoor learning space. The children have been asked for their opinions as to what equipment they would like and it is already beginning to arrive in school.

used them to create abstract art; to sharpen our bowling skills; and create imaginary characters

Also this week we welcomed a new friend into the classroom. Harold is helping us to record our knowledge of the different parts of the human body.
Our outdoor learning on Thursday afternoon involved the kneading and cooking of bread and the development of our fine motor skills.
Throughout the afternoon links were made to our current Science focus - our 5 senses.

In Geography this week we used the outdoor space to record the journey we take to school.
