-Year 2 had a very exciting afternoon when they got to re-enact the Great Fire of London by burning houses they had made. We were very lucky to have Mr Dunn help us light the fire safely. We timed how long it took for the fire to spread and destroy all the houses, it only took 4 minutes! It was very exciting!
Journey to Bethlehem
To help us get ready for Christmas, Year 2 were lucky enough to visit Sutton Bonnington church to hear all about the Christmas Story!
Creative Curriculum
This half term we have been learning all about The Great Fire of London! We have really loved finding out about how the fire spread, the effects it had on London and how it impacted the lives of the people that lived there. At the end of the half term we will even be building and burning our own houses to recreated the fire!

Our current Creative Curriculum topic is based around Superheroes! We have been thinking about real life superheroes, the qualities that it takes to be a superhero and the type of vehicle a superhero might drive! At the end of the half term we will be designing and making our own superhero vehicles thinking about a range of materials. |
Year 2 had a fantastic time testing 4 different materials to see which would be the most effective for a Superheroes cape. We were thinking about why certain materials are used for different things. Lots of us found that the tea towel was the most effective because it was soft, flexible and light.
Maths

In Class 2 we have been thinking really hard about our place value. We have been trying to reorganise different ways we can represent numbers, using a range of practical equipment and drawings.
We have also been working on our reasoning skills, trying hard to explain our understanding and proving that we know our answer is correct.

English

This half term we are linking our topic work with our English picture book. We have used lots of our reading VIPERS to help us predict what our new story might be about, using a props bag to help us.
Today we enjoyed thinking about what we already know about our character, Juniper, and using evidence from our story to back up our thinking. We showed some fantastic teamwork and great ideas based on the story!

Things to remember...
Reading
Children will change their own reading books this year (with some guidance). Please bear with us whilst we perfect this independent task! Books will be changed on Tuesday and Thursdays.
We have started our reading reward Space Race. The children have all decorated their own rocket ship and for every time they read at home their rocket ship moves forwards. After 5 reads they land on a different planet and will receive a prize!
Keep reading Year 2!!
Spellings
Each week children will receive a list of 6 words to learn to read and spell. Spelling tests will take place on Friday mornings.
Homework
In year 2 we have a slightly new way of doing homework. The children will be given a grid with 9 different activities, they must choose at least 3 pieces to complete. There will be a range of creative, open ended tasks. Homework will be handed out towards the beginning of a half term and will need to be returned towards the end of the half term.
PE kit
Our PE days are Mondays and Wednesdays. All children need their full PE kit in school on these days. This must include: shorts or jogging bottoms, a white t-shirt, plimsolls or trainers. We will be enjoying a range of lessons including gymnastics, dance, games and orienteering. Lessons will take place inside and outside. Please could all pieces of clothing (and shoes) be clearly named.
