Remote learning: Year 5 - Miss Smith email: [email protected]
Hi Class 5!
Just because school is closed, doesn't mean that we have to stop learning fun stuff! On this page, there will be lots of exciting and varied activies for you to have a go at so that you can continue to grow your brains while you're learning from home. Who knows - you may even be able to teach your parents a new thing or two as well! I will update the page a few times each week so keep your eyes peeled for new tasks to try. Remember to make the most of spending some quality time with your loved ones! It's the perfect opportunity to read new books, play games in the garden, help out with some cooking or learn a new skill.
Don't forget you have also got your logins for Spelling Shed, TTRockstars, Read Theory and Prodigy Maths, in your red books, which you can access at any time. I will be setting assignments on these every week for you to complete.
I'm looking forward to hearing about what you get up to.

Have a go at cooking some wartime recipes.

Today you are going to learn how to create some marvellous mountain zentangles! For this task you will need some paper, a selection of coloured pens or pencils and a ruler.
|
Step 1: What are zentangles?
Watch the video to find out what zentangles are and how to create them. Step 2: Have a go at creating your own zentangle patterns using some of the ideas you have seen. You might want to split your paper into boxes like you saw in the video. |
|
Step 4: Draw an outline of a mountainous landscape or you can use the one on the worksheet provided.
Step 5: Fill in each section of your landscape with zentangle patterns. It looks most effective if you use a differnt colour for each section. Remember to keep your zentangle pattern in each section the same. Only change the pattern when you are filling in a new section. Step 6: Email Miss Smith a copy of your final piece. |

Hi Class 5,
I hope you've had a lovely weekend! Have you been up to anything fun? I know from the emails I have recieved that some of you have been keeping super busy learning new skills like gardening, learning how to cook and having catch ups with each other on Zoom, which is great to hear.
I've uploaded our page with some new activites for you to keep busy with. Thank you to those of you who have logged into TT Rockstars and taken part in the Year 5 vs Year 6 battle. We're 56 points behind at the moment but there's still plenty of time to turn the tide and give them a run for their money. Make sure you login and take part!

This week in English, we are going to try something new. I'm going to be setting you a daily lesson to complete on an online school: Oak National Academy.
There will be a video lesson each day taught by a teacher called Mrs Barr. All you will need to do is click on the link below and then follow the instructions Mrs Barr will give you. You don't need to print anything for these activities, all of them can be completed in your red book. Just put a new date each day. This week's learning will build up to you writing a setting description but it will also include some reading, grammar and spelling work too.
I would love to hear your thoughts about these lessons so once you have had a go at them, complete the survey below. Remember you can share your work with me by sending me an email on [email protected]

1. Click on the picture to watch the video on BBC Bitesize.
2. Take the online quiz at the bottom of the page.
3. Create a map to show where in the world the major mountain ranges are. You can download the sheet to help you or create your own map.

You guys are living through history right now. In years to come, future generations of children might learn about this event in history lessons.
Your task is to create a time capsule. You will need a container that is air tight and won't rot if it is buried: a plastic or tin box would be best. Next download the activity booklet and fill it in with details of your time spent in lockdown. After, add some extra items that symbolise this time, like a roll of toilet paper (if you can spare one!), an empty bottle of hand sanitizer, a list of the films and TV shows you've watched. You could print photos of you and your family having a zoom meeting, clapping for the NHS, playing cards, taking a walk and celebrating special occasions together. If you have them, add some newspaper or magazine clippings, too. A nice addition is a letter to your future self about what living through this pandemic is really like. Finally, bury or hide your time capsule for someone else to find and open in 50-100 years times. Who knows this could become a vital piece of historical evidence one day! |

Hi Guys,
I hope you've had a fantastic Easter break and have stuffed yourselves silly with chocolate eggs! I've eaten far too many and have had to take Dotty on extra long walks as a result! How have you spent your Easter holidays? I hope you've been making the most of the nice weather and getting out in the sunshine. I've finished reading The Nowhere Emporium, which was absolutely fantastic and now I've started reading another great book called, The House with Chicken Legs. It's got me hooked from the first page! Have you read any good books lately?
It's not yet safe for us to come back to school so I will continue to post some learning activities for you to do each week on here. This week, we will be recapping some of the learning we did in our very first topic, which was all about Space!
Don't forget to email me with some examples of the work that you complete. I love seeing what you get up to.
I miss you all lots and can't wait to see you again when we're back at school.
Keep safe!
